the option of serving a non-governmental organization instead was a no-no for us.
the time i served was two years four months and fifteen days hard labour (1965-68) and i have not regretted any of that before yesterday.. for almost thirty years i have not been in contact with jw but as my youngest left home i started more active internet surfing and chatting.

The horror of Sept. 11th has no redeaming qualities. The hurt and sadness it brought so many people is just to great to try to make sense of. I think of the guys still at ground zero everyday trying to do the clean up and I cannot even imagine how it is for them. If you are out there God, PLEASE bless them. They are true heros.

is there a new breed of jw emerging, i wonder?.
i know that there are lots of real brainwashed dubs around who see demons behind every car boot sale item and who scuttle off to the elders with every bit of tittle-tattle imaginable, but, i think that there is a new type of dub who quietly does just as he / she pleases.. this is what i think: many of the long-serving jw's who have seen the 1975 failure and the 1914 generation change are now approaching old age with something of a jaundiced eye, and are choosing to do their own thing in their remaining years.
in conversations i am picking up it seems that the elders are being regarded somewhat derisively by many jw's.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I'm fairly new here so didn't have the opportunity to get to know Jon. From what I read of him I wish I had.
John's father is just another example of the heartlessness of the JWs. One of the prerequisits of being in the borg is having your heart and mind removed. He had 20 years to except his son for what he was (thats what love is anyway isn't it?) and didn't. He made his choises and now you must make yours.
Remember you are dealing with someone who has no heart to feel with and no brain to think with so act accordingly and do it legally and keep calm and resolute you while you do it.

perhaps you recall the instance in the bible where samson made a wager with the philistines that they couldnt guess his riddle.
as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.
since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.

It's hard to reason with someone who has had their power to reason extracted.
My niece set me a slide show of the Airliners slamming into the twin towers with scriptures captioned on the top trying to show me the last days are at hand. I don't know what she thought I was going to do. Perhaps she thought I would be at her door begging for entrance. I didn't bother to respond because you can't have a two way conversation with a dud raised in dudville. You know, a little scripture picked from here, and another picked from there. All designed to fit into their interpetation. I just consider the source and let it go.
I was lucky. My Mom didn't shun any of her children no matter what the circomstances. She had two in and three out and she loved them all. She tryed to preach to us sometimes but it was never in a threatening way. She has been dead may years and I'm greatful to her for having so much love for all of us.
As far as the Ray Franz thing....you know what the truth is (feels strange using that word, but here it is TRUE and it fits). You could probably make her eat the proof and she would still deny it.
Your job is to take care of yourself. The anger will pass a little at a time. I know, I work on it all the time as far as my dud family members are concerned.
